3) Insight: Becoming a professional in Bolted Joints (Nuts and Bolts)

Collaboration of Welding and Bolted Joint Technologies at Cairo - May 2023
The 1st Annual Assembly and Conference of The Welding Federation (TWF-Africa) took place in Cairo, Egypt in March of this year. TWF-Africa is an association made up of welding societies and affiliated groups from various African countries. Although the conference primarily focused on welding, it included a technical seminar by HARDLOCK Industry Co., Ltd., a leading bolted joint company, on their HARDLOCK Nuts (HLN). The HLN is engineered to remain tightly fastened, providing a comparable outcome to welding. As far as I am aware, bolted joint solution providers have never marketed their products at official welding events attended by welding experts. Typically, welding and bolted joint technologies are regarded as competitors, both in the business world and in research.
The opportunity for HARDLOCK to present their bolted joint technology at the TWF-Africa conference was made possible by Mr. Baha, who is the chairman of the AOTS Egypt alumni association and a member of TWF-Africa. After attending an online seminar for Egyptian engineers hosted by AOTS last year, he became familiar with HARDLOCK's technology and was impressed by their presentation. As a result, he strongly urged the company to conduct a seminar at the TWF-Africa conference, thus giving them the chance to showcase their product.
As a result, the HLN technology generated more interest than expected, with welding experts and users expressing individual questions and positive feedback to the lecturer of the HARDLOCK seminar. The exchange of ideas between welding and bolted joint technology experts is a step towards better understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each technique, leading to the adoption of the most suitable joining method for metal components based on their purpose.
