Thoughts on the Management Philosophy of Various Japanese Companies - July 2023
In the previous edition, I introduced the management philosophy proposed by the founder of Hardlock Industry Co., Ltd., which was "spirit of altruism".
Management philosophy is the fundamental approach, values, and thoughts on corporate management and activities proposed by the founder or manager of a company. In other words, a management philosophy is designed to clearly describe the company's goal and image.
It does not describe achievement of practical goals such as 'I want to generate a lot of profit' or 'I want to lead my project to success.'
Horai Co., Ltd., a Japanese food service company, also has a unique way of thinking on this. Horai believes that, in the food service industry, what is important is "GIVE & GIVE & GIVE & GIVE & GIVE...GIVE..." and not "GIVE & TAKE." According to the company, only those who give (serve), give, give, and completely give can "TAKE" customers' smiles and appreciation. This I believe is also "spirit of altruism".
The globally renowned Kazuo Inamori once said that we would never get lost in any situation as long as we always make decisions and act based on 'truths and principles.' He had also stated that there is no shortcut for success; we must keep our passion and continue making a sincere and steady effort. This ridiculously honest method is in fact the high road to success.
He has many other famous quotes, including "Don't chase profit, but let it follow your effort" and "To beautiful-minded people with dreams who make a harder effort than anyone else, God sheds a ray of light from the Vault of Knowledge as if a torch that lights the way ahead." There are many more, but I'll stop here now.
I believe many of you reading this now have become company managers or business leaders in your country after learning in Japan. What is your management philosophy?
In the next edition, we will continue on the topic of management philosophy.
To be continued in the next edition.
Stay tuned for the next AOTS E-Newsletter.
